Work on It: Keeping Up with Labor Law

The labor law landscape has been shifting; there have been new laws and changes to existing laws. This does not include the recent changes due to the global crisis of corona virus. Please join Elena DeFio Kean, Esq. From Hinman Straub for a session that will address the changes and how to keep up with them. Topics will include:
• COVID-19: Recent EEOC guidelines on how to interact with employees without violating the ADA, Re-opening guidelines, & employee policies, discussions of discipline, and other options when employees don’t want to work
• Update on the change back on voting laws, the new sick leave law and how it differs from NYC sick and safe leave law
• The impact of the new overtime guidelines from the US DOL “final rulings”
• NYC and cannabis and the current state of legislation in NYS
• A brief refresher on new laws that have been enacted within the last 6 months

Meet the Presenter:

Elena DeFio Kean represents businesses in corporate and labor and employment matters. She drafts and reviews employment agreements, negotiates partnership and operating agreements, and non-disclosure agreements and represents businesses in various litigations that may arise in the course of operations. She has developed and provided extensive training across the state in preventing discrimination and harassment in the workplace, how to conduct effective investigations of discrimination and harassment complaints in the workplace, workplace violence prevention, progressive discipline and loss prevention measures. She also develops and reviews employee handbooks and policies, and assists businesses in addressing and defending investigations and matters with the NYS Department of Labor, Division of Human Rights, and other related governmental agencies.
