The Essential Role That Case Managers, Wellness Directors & Nurses Play In New York's Licensed Adult Homes, Enriched Housing Programs (ACF), Assisted Living Residents (ALR) & Assisted Living Programs (ALP)

As an ACF/ALR/ALP case manager, wellness director or nurse, you work every day with others in your residence to provide quality services to residents. Every area of operation in the residence affects residents' well being, health and satisfaction. Your role as a case manager/wellness supervisor is unique: To do your job right, you must have an understanding of not only the direct case management or personal care regulations associated with your job title, but also of the requirements for all areas of operation.

This ESAAL seminar is an opportunity for ACF/ALP/ALR case managers, wellness directors and nurses to learn about and discuss compliance with New York State Department of Health regulations in the context of their own job descriptions and duties, with the goal of helping residents to be well and satisfied. We will provide an overview of regulations from YOUR PERSPECTIVE and YOUR ROLE in each of assisted living's critical areas of operation including:

  • Resident admission and retention criteria
  • The pre-admission resident interview
  • Resident admission & renewal paperwork
  • Resident discharge process and documentation
  • Supporting resident organizations
  • Assisting residents with money management
  • Incident reporting
  • Supervision of personal care services &medication assistance
  • Activity services
  • Dealing with residents with challenging behaviors
  • Effective case management documentation
  • Using the staff communication log
  • Food service and special diets
  • Staff training
  • Building maintenance and housekeeping
  • Emergency planning
  • The DOH survey process and writing a plan of correction

    This seminar is intended for:

  • Wellness Directors;
  • LPNs and RNs;
  • Personal Care Supervisors; and
  • Other management level staff responsible for resident services or staff training
  • Note: Over a two-year period, Case Managers and Activities Directors of record are authorized by regulation to earn up to 20 of the 60 hours of continuing education on behalf of an adult home Administrator/Executive Director. Case Managers and Activities Directors attending this seminar will earn 4.5 continuing education hours for their Administrator/Executive Director.
