ESAAL’s Conference and Education Committee is pleased to report that our 31st Annual Conference and Trade Show was a huge success with a record attendance of 278 providers, 41 Exhibitors and 17 Sponsors.

This year we delivered on attendees’ requests to offer daily motivational speakers, and they included Teepa Snow, Clint Maun, and Sidney Hurlbert, all yielding rave reviews and producing lots of laughter while imparting a wealth of information.

On the serious side, we covered many topics that were suggested by past attendees:

• Customer service, staff development, preparing for DOH survey and writing an effective Plan of Corrections, grant writing and effective marketing.
• On operations, the role of nurse in assisted living, architectural standards, food service guidelines, communicable diseases, OSHA compliance and Quality Assurance 101.

The Trade Show theme, “Day at the Track”, was a fun opportunity for attendees to win prizes during the racing video games. This year’s $1,000 grand prize winner was Ellis Morrison from Johnson’s Adult Home in Fredonia, NY.

Finally, the no-speech, band-music Annual Reception and Banquet was another big hit. New this year, during the cocktail reception attendees were able get a magnetic photo memento of themselves, their colleagues and friends to take home for the memories (and to hold up important stuff on their refrigerator!)

During the banquet we announced the 2010 Annual Benay Phillips Memorial Award---Tasha Hildreth, Resident Assistant Coordinator, at Pine Harbour Assisted Living in Plattsburgh, NY. Congratulations to Tasha! We also honored Anita Russo, ESAAL’s Executive Assistant, who will retire in June. Thank you Anita, for everything!

The evening also culminated a four-day effort of ESAAL’s Political Action Committee (PAC) to raise $50,000. Under the leadership of Jim Vitale, the campaign went over the top and brought in over $61,000. Thanks as always to Jim for his tireless efforts on behalf of ESAAL and its members!
